Repairs set to take place on rural road
Published: Thursday 3 September 2026
Essential repairs are to take place close to the small rural village of Newbigging from next week.
The A721 Newbigging will be closed from its junction with Oggscastle Road to Station Cottages from Monday 7 September at 7am for up to seven days to allow carriageway surfacing work to take place.
No motor vehicles (except those engaged in the work and emergency service vehicles) will be able to park or drive on the road during this time.
The signed diversion route will be as follows: A702, A73, A70, A721 and vice-versa.
Colin Park, the council’s Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause.
“We would ask all road users to allow additional time for their journeys during this period and plan accordingly.
“I know everyone who uses this road will see a benefit in the improved condition of the surface as a result of the works.”
